Renée Zangara was born in Oakland, California and with the exception of a short stay in Denver, Colorado, she lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. She moved to Portland, Oregon in 1992 and enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Marylhurst University, graduating in 1996. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is in private and public collections, including the Regional Arts & Cultural Council’s (RACC) Visual Chronicle, Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Over the past 15 years, Renée has focused on portrayals of isolated over-sized botanical or animal-referenced images depicted in abstracted environments. She is interested in and inspired by the energies invested in human relationships, characteristics, and conditions and how she imagines these same attributes reflected in the objects she renders. Her affinity for the painting medium is made obvious by the energetic brush stroke and intense physicality on the canvas surface.

Renée is an active member of Portland’s art community and a member of Nine Gallery.
